Short answer: capped and uncapped WPC can both be valid. Selection depends on exposure, traffic, appearance, maintenance expectations, edge details and evidence for the exact product being quoted.
What the cap changes
A capped board has a polymer-rich surface layer around part or all of the WPC core. An uncapped board exposes the composite material at the surface. The cap can change colour depth, texture, stain response and weathering, but it does not replace review of the core, profile geometry or installation system.

- Record climate, sun, moisture, pool chemicals, marine exposure and expected traffic.
- Define colour range, grain, sheen, board width, laying direction and edge treatment.
- Confirm substructure, support spacing, drainage, ventilation and movement clearances.
- Compare evidence for the exact profile and colour, not a different family.
What to verify
Review multiple samples where possible. Compare colour range, repeat pattern, surface gloss, edge quality and section geometry. Request current product data, relevant test reports, installation instructions, care guidance and an approved order specification before confirmation.
