  • The installation system matters

A decking board is one layer of an outdoor assembly. Profile selection, support conditions, water movement, ventilation, fixing and workmanship interact.

    Begin with a site drawing

Record dimensions, levels, thresholds, walls, drains, stairs, access panels, slopes and changes in laying direction. A dimensioned layout supports a more reliable review of lengths, support lines, joints, trims and likely waste.

    Coordinate the system

    • Confirm support material and spacing for the exact profile and use.
    • Keep drainage routes clear and provide required ventilation.
    • Follow current guidance for movement gaps and fixed points.
    • Use compatible clips, fasteners, starter pieces and trims.
    • Resolve stairs, edges and transitions before ordering.

This note is a coordination checklist, not project-specific structural or waterproofing design.

  • WPC supplier evaluation checklist

A useful supplier review separates who the supplier is, what the quoted product is and what evidence applies to that exact product.

    Company and commercial identity

    • Confirm the legal name, address, trading role and contracting entity.
    • Clarify who quotes, receives payment and appears on export documents.
    • Check that beneficiary details match the approved contracting route.

    Product definition

    • Record model code, cross-section, dimensions, surface, colour and intended application.
    • List clips, fasteners, supports and trims required for a complete scope.
    • Mark every value that still needs confirmation.

    Evidence and order control

Check the applicant, manufacturer, product description, model reference, standard, issue date and issuing body for each document. Approve identified samples, define inspection outputs and align Incoterm, packing, labels and required documents before release.

This checklist supports due diligence; it does not certify a supplier.

  • Capped vs. uncapped decking

Short answer: capped and uncapped WPC can both be valid. Selection depends on exposure, traffic, appearance, maintenance expectations, edge details and evidence for the exact product being quoted.

    What the cap changes

A capped board has a polymer-rich surface layer around part or all of the WPC core. An uncapped board exposes the composite material at the surface. The cap can change colour depth, texture, stain response and weathering, but it does not replace review of the core, profile geometry or installation system.

    Choose from the application

    • Record climate, sun, moisture, pool chemicals, marine exposure and expected traffic.
    • Define colour range, grain, sheen, board width, laying direction and edge treatment.
    • Confirm substructure, support spacing, drainage, ventilation and movement clearances.
    • Compare evidence for the exact profile and colour, not a different family.

    What to verify

Review multiple samples where possible. Compare colour range, repeat pattern, surface gloss, edge quality and section geometry. Request current product data, relevant test reports, installation instructions, care guidance and an approved order specification before confirmation.

This guide is a purchasing framework, not a performance claim for a particular board.
